Arbor Day Celebration 2010
This year marks the 20th consecutive year the City of Forest Grove has been designated as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. To celebrate Arbor Day, the City of Forest Grove Community Forestry Commission will hold an Oregon White Oak tree planting ceremony at 12:00 PM on Friday, April 9, 2010, at Rogers Park located at 17th Avenue and Douglas Street. The Oregon White Oak is the City’s official tree. Food and beverages will be provided at the event.
Also to commemorate Arbor Day, the Community Forestry Commission will plant six Oregon White Oak Trees throughout the Clark Historic District. The trees are funded through the City’s Neighborwoods Program a joint project of the Forest Grove City Council and Community Forestry Commission. Neighborwoods is a street tree infill planting project. Approximately 200 trees have been planted along City streets through the Neighborwoods Program.
The Community Forestry Commission is appointed by the Forest Grove City Council to oversee the City’s urban forest and Register of Historic and Significant Trees. The Commission is currently seeking applicants to serve on the Commission.
