Forest Grove Police to Conduct Extra DUII Patrols

The Forest Grove Police Department will be conducting enhanced DUII patrols over the Memorial Day weekend. The department reminds citizens to use designated drivers or public transportation and to engage in safe driving habits throughout the weekend.

It is the goal of the Forest Grove Police Department to keep our citizens safe. DUII related crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs are one of the major killers in Oregon. 136 people lost their lives in impaired driving crashes in Oregon in 2008.

There is typically an increase in impaired driving during the Memorial Day weekend. According to confirmed information, five people died in 4 separate fatal traffic crashes in Oregon during the 78-hour reporting period in 2009. During the 2008 Memorial Day holiday period two people died, and during the 2007 holiday period ten traffic fatalities were reported.

The Forest Grove Police Department will have extra staffing to enhance DUII enforcement and will be coordinating the additional enforcement with other law enforcement agencies.
