"If I Were Mayor" Contest Winner Announced
“If I Were Mayor” 2009 Student Contest is sponsored by the Oregon Mayors Association. The contest ran from April 1 through May 29 and was advertised through the utility bill insert and City ad in the News Times. One local winner in each of the three (3) categories was eligible to move on to the statewide competition. The three categories were:
· Poster - Elementary grades 4-6
· Essay - Middle School
· Video/PowerPoint - High School or college.
Unfortunately, there were no entries in the poster or essay categories. But Mayor Kidd is pleased to announce that the City has a winning entry in the video/PowerPoint category.
Emily Eason in completing her sophomore year through home schooling during which she has been learning the basic computer skills used in her entry. In her spare time, Emily co-teaches 10 to 13 year olds in the Bright Lights program, enjoys Irish dancing, and spending time with her dog training for agility competitions. She also recently got her drivers permit and looks forward to learning how to drive.
Emily was presented a $50.00 cash prize and a gift certificate to Barnes & Noble from the City of Forest Grove. Her entry will be submitted to the state level. The winner at the state level will be announced during the Oregon Mayor’s Association Conference being held July 30-August 1st right here in Forest Grove at Pacific University.
