Local winners in the “If I Were Mayor” contest were announced at the City Council meeting on Monday, June 9, 2008.

The winners were Kathleen Kelly from Forest Grove Community School in the poster category, Leith Parson, Forest Grove High School, in the essay category, and David Bauders, Forest Grove High School, in the video/PowerPoint category.

Mayor Kidd presented each winner with a $50.00 cash prize and gift certificates donated by local businesses:  The Accidental Bookmaker-Green Heron Book Store, Frye’s Action Athletics, Pacific University Bookstore, and Joe’s Ice Cream Deli & Catering.

Fellow City Councilors served as judges and considered creativity, clarity/sincerity of thought, proper use of grammar, and subject relevancy.  There were 11 entrants in this year’s local competition.

“If I Were Mayor” 2008 Student Contest is sponsored by the Oregon Mayors Association (OMA).  The local winners’ entry in each of the three (3) categories will be submitted to the statewide competition.  The statewide winners and their parents will be invited to attend the OMA summer conference in Pendleton on August 2 where they will be recognized at the annual banquet and receive their prize of a laptop computer.

Good luck to our local winners!
