Seatbelt Enforcement Blitz

The Forest Grove Police Department participated in a state-wide seatbelt enforcement blitz which took place from February 8 through February 21, 2010.

The following is a summary of the enforcement actions taken:

• 33 citations and warnings for failure to wear a seatbelt
• 1 citation for a child restraint violation.
• 7 speed citations issued
• 1 citation issued for Driving While Suspended
• 40 additional miscellaneous citations were issued during the blitz

Surveys, which are conducted pre-blitz and post-blitz, indicate that seat belt usage improved from 95% to 98%.

Lack of belt use was a major factor in half of all Oregon motor vehicle occupant deaths last year. One in three (32%) children under age eight killed or injured in crashes were using adult belts systems (223 children) or were totally unrestrained (22 children) rather than riding in child seats appropriate for their size.
