Small Town, Your Town...Be a Part of It

Are you new in the community? Maybe you have lived here all your life and don’t feel part of something. Want to get connected with others or bring more meaning into your life? Perhaps you didn’t realize all the different events and opportunities going on in the community. Here is your opportunity to find out!

On Saturday, January 29, the Annual Town Meeting (ATM) will be at the Community Auditorium. The topic for the meeting is “Small Town, Your Town…Be A Part of It.” It is being put on by the City’s Committee for Citizen Involvement (CCI). The focus of the meeting will be on communication in the community and participation in various activities and groups in Forest Grove. After some brief comments by the Mayor, presenters will discuss such topics as:

• Tourism and business activities happening in town;
• Chamber programs;
• City’s communication program;
• CCI’s neighborhood liaison program;
• Value of volunteers to the community;
• City and school district volunteer opportunities; and
• Community service organizations opportunities.

After a brief introduction of persons representing various organizations, attendees will have an opportunity to meet these people to find out more about their group.

As a result of several previous programs, citizens have expressed a desire to maintain Forest Grove’s small town feel as the community grows. This year’s ATM is part of CCI’s focus on ways to maintain this small town feel. They believe that a key aspect of a small town is in its neighborhoods. Through communication and involvement in the community, the Committee believes that citizens will have a better connection with each other and the community at large.

Besides the ATM, CCI would welcome other ideas about ways to keep Forest Grove special. You are welcomed to attend a CCI meeting to discuss your idea. The Committee meets the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Auditorium Conference Room. The Auditorium is located at 1915 Main Street in Forest Grove. Check in begins at 8:30 a.m. with the program beginning at 9:00 a.m. The ATM is scheduled to end at 12:30 p.m.
