Public Arts Commission: Call For Art

The goal of the Forest Grove Public Arts Commission, in partnership with other city entities, is to create and promote a pedestrian-friendly atmosphere, attract people to the downtown area, and contribute to the quality and identity of the City. In 2008 the Public Arts Commission received funds for public art to be permanently placed within the city limits of Forest Grove. The pieces chosen as a result of this Call for Art had the honor of being the inaugural work in an ambitious and worthwhile civic endeavor.
These benches were installed and unveiled on October 6, 2010, during the First Wednesday activities. Mayor Truax dedicated the benches to the memory of the late Dale Mitcheltree, City Councilor, who proposed and initiated the "This Brick Needs A Name" campaign which raised the money for the acquisition of public art. The City commissioned TVCTV to produce a documentary of the art acquisition which can be viewed below.
