FOREST GROVE – It is with deep regret that I write this note to our community and our family. The untimely death of Gregory Dunlap, Forest Grove Police Sergeant, impacts all of us. Sergeant Dunlap passed away unexpectedly at his home, Saturday, June 5, 2010. Sergeant Dunlap was an integral part of the Forest Grove Police Department.  By extension that made him part of the wider family of municipal employees and officials in Forest Grove.  And, by further extension, that made him part of the wider family of Forest Grove. Sergeant Dunlap’s service to the citizens of Forest Grove began in 1988.  He was promoted to Sergeant in February of 1992. He was awarded 12 commendations for service, including “Police Officer of the Year” in 2008.  He also held the office of President of the Forest Grove Police Association at the time of his death.  Dunlap served in the Air Force, from 1977 to 1984, and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.  He was stationed at Williams Air Force Base, Mesa, Arizona. Prior to his employment with the Forest Grove Police Department, Dunlap served as a Police Officer for Tempe, Arizona, Police Department from 1984 to 1988.  Sergeant Dunlap is survived by his wife, Diane, and by the numerous friends and colleagues in and beyond the Forest Grove Police Department. To say that Greg Dunlap will be missed is an understatement. His professionalism, performance, and compassion will be missed, but, at the same time will serve as a measuring stick for all of us.

Peter B. Truax, Mayor, City of Forest Grove, Oregon

The memorial service for Sergeant Greg Dunlap will be held Saturday, June 12th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 4265 SW Golf Course Rd., Cornelius Oregon 97116.  Law enforcement personnel attending the service are asked to be in uniform.  Sergeant Dunlap’s family asked that donations be made to the Oregon Humane Society or any animal rescue organization.  The family has requested that no flowers be sent.
