Public Works: Streets Print E-mail

The Streets Division’s primary mission is to construct and maintain a street system that will provide safe and efficient transportation.

The Street Division is responsible for resurfacing, repair and maintenance of 59 miles of city streets, bicycle paths, street signs and markings, and storm sewers and ditches. Included in those activities are street sweeping, crack sealing, storm line maintenance and repair, snow removal and sanding and maintenance overlays.

The Street Fund is a special revenue fund operated for the specific purpose of building and maintaining streets and related infrastructure within the City of Forest Grove.  This service area is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the streets, alleyways, and signs.  Employees provide customer service by responding to emergencies involving these responsibilities and as well as citizen concerns.  Principle funding to the Street Fund is State of Oregon gasoline tax apportionment paid to the City.  Additional funds come from the 2001 Oregon Transportation Investment Act.

Annual Street Resurfacing
As part of the Streets Division program, many neighborhood streets in the City have been treated with slurry seal applications, and many are scheduled for future treatments.  Slurry seal is an environmentally friendly mixture of asphalt emulsion, mineral aggregates, water and additives.  This “quick set, slow cure” process is a recipe for success, because it extends the life of roadways in an economical way that causes the least amount of inconvenience to homeowners and traveling public while work is taking place.  Click here for the Street Resurfacing Schedule for July 1 through August 29, 2008.
