Arrest Made in Shooting Death

On September 17, 2011, at approximately 5:30 pm, police responded to a call of a shooting in the 1600 block of Poplar Place, Forest Grove.  Upon arrival, officers located a male juvenile victim deceased from a gunshot wound and a female juvenile with a head laceration.  Officers detained a third subject at the scene, an adult male who is a suspect in the shooting.  The female was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

On September 18, 2011, at approximately 2:40 am, Forest Grove Police detectives arrested Cody James Ward, 18, of Forest Grove in the shooting death of 15-year old, Trenton Joseph Lester.  Ward was lodged at the Washington County Jail and charged with Criminal Negligent Homicide. 

Police are not yet releasing the name of the juvenile female who was injured in the incident and has since been released from the hospital.  This is still an active investigation.  Detectives are still trying to determine the relationship between the three subjects and learning details surrounding the shooting. 

Trenton was a student with Forest Grove School District as well as the suspect, Cody Ward.  The school district is being notified and counselors will be made available for students needing to talk about this event.

Ward will be arraigned Monday, September 19, at 3:00 pm.  A grand jury will convene in the next several days to hear further details in the case.
