Artisans in the Grove Looking for Local Artists
On June 1 at the Forest Grove City Club First Wednesday event, a new group self-titled "Artisans in the Grove" made their debut. This group of local artists and crafters came about from several conversations around a kitchen table and subsequent interactions with members of the community. These conversations highlighted the interest and need for Forest Grove artisans to have an affordable, regularly-occurring market for their goods. Their first planning meeting just occurred this past May and the reception from the community has been uplifting!
The primary objectives of Artisans in the Grove include:
- Providing a low-cost opportunity for local artists (crafts, music, textiles, performers...you name it) to share their talents with the community.
- Complimenting the mission of the Forest Grove Farmer's Market held every Wednesday throughout the summer season.
- Promoting increased foot-traffic and business in the downtown area of Forest Grove contributing to the economic vitality of our City.
They hope to promote SALES of these items for smaller scale vendors (home crafters etc.) as well as established artists in our area. They also want to offer DEMONSTRATION space for businesses that offer classes and/or performance services in the arts.
Forest Grove First Wednesdays are organized by the City Club, which has generously
offered to make booth space available to Artisans in the Grove. Interested artists may rent a 10'x10' space for only $10 or share booth space for as little as $4. In the shared space, wares will be combined with other artisans to create a unique assortment of arts and crafts in a boutique-style area called the "Sampler's Veranda." Participants of the Sampler's Veranda DO NOT have to stay at the booth, if they do not wish, making it great for people with limited time to drop off items and have Artisans in the Grove sell for them.
