The Forest Grove City Council is accepting applications to fill the unexpired term of office of Councilor Peter Truax who will be assuming the position as Mayor on October 22, 2009. The applicant who is appointed shall formally assume the office on October 26, 2009.

The successful applicant will serve the three years remaining in the current term ending November, 2012. The applicant must be a qualified elector under State law, and reside within the City for at least one year before appointment to office. The applicant cannot be employed by the City.  Application Packet may be picked up at the City Recorder’s Office and applications may be submitted Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to the attention of the City Recorder’s Office, 1924 Council Street, Second Floor, P. O. Box 326, Forest Grove, OR 97116-0326. Application packets received are considered public record and may be released to the public and media in accordance with the Oregon Public Records Law. The application packet needs to include full name and residence address, current resume and a written statement explaining the applicant’s reason for wishing to be appointed to the office. Selected applicants will be interviewed by the City Council. The Forest Grove City Council is the final judge of the appointment and qualifications of its members. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, September 4, 2009, at 5:00 p.m.

City Council positions are paid $100.00 per month stipend, set by resolution. Medical, vision and dental insurance benefits are provided for those who wish to participate. As set by resolution, the City of Forest Grove contributes 95% of the Blue Cross Premium and Council participant pays 5%.
