City Hires Light & Power Director
The City of Forest Grove is pleased to announce the appointment of George Cress to the position of Director of the Light and Power Department.
Cress has worked in county and regional agencies for over 30 years and holds a Master Degree in Public Administration from Portland State University. Cress comes to Forest Grove from the Port of Longview where he has worked the last 16 years. He brings a strong background in utility and property development as well as industrial recruitment which he will utilize to promote the interests of Forest Grove. He replaces the previous Director, Janet Lonneker, who moved to San Diego last July.
City Manager Michael Sykes said he is excited about the experience and energy Cress will bring to the City. “His experience in property development and industrial recruitment will be valuable to our efforts to market Forest Grove to new industry,” said Sykes. “Cress pretty much developed every vacant industrial property in the Longview Port District and we think he will be a valuable part of our economic development team in Forest Grove as well. In addition, Cress has the leadership skills and experience we were looking for to effectively manage the internal and external operations of Forest Grove Light & Power,” added Sykes. “Cress is a very thoughtful and positive person and he will be a great addition to the City of Forest Grove family,” concluded Sykes. Cress began his new position on Monday, October 3, 2011.
