Applications are being accepted for high school and college students to serve on various city of Forest Grove Boards, Committees, and Commissions as a Student Advisor.

Mayor Peter Truax is encouraging high school and college students to apply to serve as a student advisor on various City of Forest Grove boards, committees, and commissions. Whether you are interested in economic development, library programs, historical preservation, tree preservation, parks and recreational activities, public safety or citizen involvement, the City of Forest Grove has opportunities for you to volunteer your time and talents. Each board is unique in its size, meeting schedule, and specific function; however, the overall mission is the same: to make Forest Grove, "A Place Where Families and Business Thrive".

By serving as a student advisor on a board, committee, or commission, students get the opportunity to share their views and ideas on a variety of community-related issues firsthand with the Mayor and City Council and other City representatives.

Students will receive an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact in Forest Grove by getting involved in various City programs and participating in diverse, high-profile community projects and events. More importantly, we hope students will learn and appreciate the importance of civic responsibility and involvement.

To be eligible, students must reside in the City and must be currently enrolled in high school or being homeschooled at sophomore, junior or senior level and college students must attend an accredited college. Students must commit to approximately two to three hours per month for meetings and activities. Students may serve a one-year term or longer.  Enrollment is limited; students will be interviewed by the City Council and be selected based on their application questions, interview, and willingness to serve.

For more information or to request an application, please call the City Recorder’s Office at 503.992.3235. Applications can also be downloaded from the Volunteer Opportunities on the City's website. The deadline to submit a completed application is Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Completed applications can also be dropped off or mailed to: City of Forest Grove, City Recorder, 1924 Council Street, PO Box 326, Forest Grove, OR 97116.
