County Begins Work on David Hill Road
Washington County Land Use and Transportation begins construction on two projects next week -- one in Forest Grove and one that may impact commuters from the area. Both projects are anticipated to be completed by the end of this year.
David Hill Road Extension
This project will construct a three-lane section of roadway extending David Hill Road approximately 700 feet east of Brook Street through existing wetlands. Further extension of the road to Highway 47 is anticipated to be completed by future development. The connection will include bike lanes and sidewalks to match existing sections of the roadway along with mitigation for impacts to the wetlands.

Scholls Ferry/River Road Roundabout
And if you go the back way into Washington Square, beware of the project constructed a roundabout at the intersection of Scholls Ferry Road and River Road.
The existing intersection is made up of two county roads that serve commercial vehicles, as well as rural and commuter traffic. The intersection is stop-controlled on two of the three legs creating confusion, periodic long delays during peak hours and safety issues.
During the early planning stages of this project, engineers considered multiple alternatives to improve the safety and efficiency of this intersection. The options included multiple traffic signal configurations and a roundabout. Our studies determined that a roundabout would require less maintenance over time, reduce traffic congestion, and improve safety.
The roundabout designed for Scholls Ferry Road at River Road will be similar to the Verboort Roundabouts on Cornelius-Schefflin Road and Verboort Road.
Roundabouts have proven to be a safer alternative for particular intersections and have been strongly encouraged by Citizen Advisory Committees. For more information and a video about the advantages of roundabouts and how motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians maneuver around them, check out our Driving Roundabouts page.
