An old-fashioned Holiday in the Grove, sponsored by The City Club of Forest Grove and downtown organizations, returns bigger and better for 2011.  Highlights on Saturday, December 3, include the Holiday Light Parade, Artisans Holiday Market, a holiday concert by The Westside Singers, holiday card making for the kids at Periscope Books & Tutoring, hay rides, multiple free art projects for the kids, and a visit from Santa.  Over 30 downtown merchants are also making gift certificates available to ease holiday shopping.  There will be over 17 activities for Holiday in the Grove on Saturday, December 3.

The festivities begin on Friday evening, December 2, with special wine tastings at the Friendly Vine and Urban Decanter.  A full slate of events fill the day on Saturday, December 3, beginning at 8:30 am with a Breakfast with Santa at Grendel’s Restaurant and continuing into the evening with the Holiday Light Parade beginning at 5 pm, a special buffet, music and the Theatre in the Grove production of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at 8 pm.  First Wednesday events on December 7 from 5 to 8 pm will continue the holiday celebration with an appearance by Santa at Connie’s Corner Café, wine tasting, retailer specials and a holiday storefront decorating contest.

The Artisans Holiday Market will feature over 20 vendors featuring a variety of different holiday gift ideas that have been handcrafted or repurposed by talented local artisans. The market will run from 10 am to 4 pm on December 3 at the Holbrook Masonic Hall at 2019 Main Street. There will also be several options to make charitable donations. The concert by the Westside Singers at the United Church of Christ at 3 pm will be a fundraiser for the Habitat for Humanity while 1910 Main American Bistro will host a giving tree for the Forest Grove Family Resource Center. There will also be collection boxes at several places downtown for the Forest Grove Firefighters Annual Toy Drive and for food donations for the Oregon Food Bank.  Favorite returning events to the Holiday in the Grove include photos with Santa at Barnes and Noble University Bookstore, the Elf Workshop at Valley Art, the Gingerbread House Contest sponsored by Pacific Insurance Partners and displayed at the News Times and the Coloring Book Contest sponsored by Bank of the West.  Both contests will offer prizes.

The evening will be capped off with Annual Holiday Light Parade sponsored by FG Light & Power and City Club of Forest Grove. The parade will begin at 5 pm on Main Street and feature dozens of floats, marchers and vehicles decorated in holiday lights.  Santa Claus will appear at the end, waving to viewers of all ages.  Visit  http://www.forestgrove-or.gov/visitors/events.html to see video from previous parades.
