Forest Grove Completes Wayfinder Sign Project
The last of four new wayfinder kiosk signs were installed this past week. The new two-sided signs feature a walking map of the district they are located in, a regional map on the back highlighting wineries and other tourist and visitor features, and a covered brochure holder. The signs were developed to better guide newcomers, visitors and tourists to amenities and areas of interest.
The wayfinder kiosk signs are located at the corner of Main Street and Pacific Avenue covering the downtown; near the barber pole parking lot off Main Street covering the Lincoln Park and Pacific University Athletic facilities; at 19th and Main for the Clark Historic District; and another at Fernhill Wetlands off Hwy 47. The kiosk signs all contain the new branded pinot grape logo. The kiosk signs are made of tough fused laminate graphic panels that allow for vibrant color images while being weather resistant and shatter proof. “These attractive signs are an excellent opportunity to show visitors all that we have to offer,” said Mayor Truax. “And a good example of community input from our Wayfinders Committee that shaped the project from inception to completion,” he added.
Earlier in the year, ten (10) wayfinder directional signs were installed to better connect key districts and points of interests. The wayfinding project was in response in part to a report prepared by a national tourism consultant that stated that ODOT highway signage made it easy to leave the City but difficult to find the downtown core and other key areas within the community.
The wayfinding sign project was funded from a grant from the Washington County Visitors Association (WCVA), private donations from Pacific University and Fernhill Wetlands Council and City funds. The wayfinder signs were constructed by Miracle Signs of Forest Grove and designed by Inhouse Graphics of Salem, Oregon. The kiosk wayfinder signs were built by Aardvark Imaging.
