Over the past month, four new businesses now call Forest Grove home.  Three of the businesses are located in the downtown, while the fourth is located in the industrial area on 24th Avenue.  Lorri Nandrea, owner of the new Periscope Books and Tutoring, said “I chose Forest Grove because of the strong sense of community and have felt welcomed by both local businesses and individuals.  I am very pleased.”

Crane Point Industrial, LLC, is a distributor of nails, nail guns and related products.  They purchased a formerly vacant 15,532 square foot industrial building.  The downtown businesses include Creative Enterprises, a dance studio on Main Street; Periscope Books and Tutoring on Pacific Ave, a seller of fine used books and tutoring in several disciplines; and MGM Laser Works, a custom laser engraver.  “The City has worked hard to provide an attractive business environment by working to reduce costs, create incentives and respond quickly to requests for assistance,” stated Jeff King, City Economic Development Manager.

Several of the companies were aided by the City Business Incentive Program. This program waives or reduces costs for business licenses, building permits and sign permits for businesses moving into vacant buildings. The incentives are available until mid-2012.

King is hopeful there will more good news in the future. Forest Grove is a finalist as a possible location for two industrial companies and is currently working with a broker on two more small businesses considering opening in the downtown.

The City recognizes that the regional economy continues to struggle and is working on an option to allow for financing transportation system development charges and will be announcing some additional initiatives to encourage entrepreneurial startups and small business growth in Forest Grove.  For more information, contact Jeff King at 503.992.3293 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
