Forest Grove Wine and Dinner on Main Street to Benefit Youth Arts
The final details for the 2011 Main Course event on July 9th have been completed with organizers hoping for a good turnout to this signature event. The Main Course will host twelve wineries while six local restaurants will participate in a sit-down multicourse dinner. Area favorite Tito (formerly with Gentle Rain) will play Brazilian jazz. As in the past the Main Course will be set out on Main Street amid historic downtown buildings. The event will benefit youth art programs through the Forest Grove Public Arts Commission.
One of the major goals of the Forest Grove Public Arts Commission is to improve access to the arts for the children for Forest Grove. Funds raised through the Main Course will allow for mini-grants to support youth art programs. “Our programs provide exposure to the arts at no cost to the public. Writing, painting, theater, music, dance are examples how the PAC can enhance the artistic life of children,” said Kathleen Leatham, chair of the Public Arts Commission. “Artistic exposures and hands-on experiences are vital to the social development of children into adults. The arts and cultural life also help children better express themselves in other areas,” she added.
The Main Course Forest Grove hosts this annual celebration with a focus on local and fresh ingredients. The entrée from 1910 Main Bistro will feature Carlton Farms grilled pork tenderloin with Epler Farms blueberry sauce and farmers market vegetables. Bistro Stecchino will serve fresh tapenade and crostini for appetizers and flourless chocolate cake with fresh Oregon berries and sweet crème for dessert. Grendels English Pub will present local L-bar-T buffalo pasties; handmade falafel with tahini and freshly made hummus from Izgara Middle Eastern Cuisine, and freshly made salad rolls from Pac Thai. Urban Decanter will also serve a range of appetizers.
Like the dinner, local high quality wineries will be featured. The tasting will be a casual affair allowing participants to talk with winery staff, including some winemakers and owners. Participating wineries includes Apolloni, Montinore Estate, Purple Cow, David Hill Vineyards, Plum Hill, Provincial Vineyards, Zimri Cellars, Tualatin Estates, Abbey Creek, Kramer Vineyards, Helvetia and Sake One.
Guests have a choice of tickets. Wine tasting, appetizers and a glass begins at 5:30 pm and costs $30 or $75 for dinner, tasting and appetizers and a glass. Dinner seating is limited to 200. The Main Course is a non-profit event coordinated through The Forest Grove Foundation. Tickets may be purchased at Urban Decanter, 2030 Main Street, 503-359-7678, the Forest Grove Chamber of Commerce, 2417 Pacific Avenue, 503-357-3006, or through the web at www.maincoursedinner.com
