Hit-and-Run Accident Causes Power Outage
At approximately 12:03 AM on Saturday, October 8, a hit-and-run driver ran into one of the City of Forest Grove's main power line poles on David Hill Road south of Forest Gale Drive. The pole which carries 12,000 volts was sheared off at the ground causing the pole to fall across David Hill Road pulling electric lines down with it.
This damage caused the electric substation at the corner of Thatcher Road and Gales Creek Highway to disconnect power affecting approximately 3,000 customers. City of Forest Grove crews were able to sectionalize the damaged area and had most everyone back in service within approximately 90 minutes. The remaining customers were put back in service at approximately 2:30 AM.
After service had been restored to City customers, the crews went to work on replacing the damaged pole and reconnecting wires. David Hill Road was closed for over ten hours until crews were able to clear the road. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
