Vision 20/20 -- Forest Grove Looking Ahead

Incorporated in 1872, Forest Grove is Oregon’s third oldest city with history stretching back to the 1840s. We live in a community with a long and eventful history. As citizens we also have the responsibility to continue Forest Grove’s story into a prosperous future.

If you have an interest in helping build the future of Forest Grove, come join your neighbors and fellow community members at the 2014 Annual Town Meeting. The event will take place on Saturday, February 1, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Community Auditorium, 1915 Main Street.  Presented by the Committee for Citizen Involvement, this year’s theme is “Vision 20/20 – Forest Grove Looking Ahead.”

In 2006, a committee of community volunteers updated the City’s original Vision Statement developed in 1991. Adopted by the City Council, this document expresses what kind of community Forest Grove should be. An Action Plan was also created to bring the Vision Statement to life by outlining dozens of short and long term tasks to complete. The first Action Plan was approved in 2007. The Action Plan is a living document, one that is intended to be adjusted as tasks are achieved or priorities change.  After five and half years the time has come for a comprehensive update of the Action Plan. This is where you, the community, come in at the Annual Town Meeting.

Community members will get an opportunity to provide their input on the update of the 2007 Action Plan. The Action Plan touches on all subjects, from historic preservation to economic development. No matter what your interests or beliefs, we want you to come and share your opinion with your fellow community members during the break out session. The Annual Town Meeting will also have a clicker-based survey where the audience will see the immediate results of their opinions regarding community. If you have something to share, we want to see you there!
