The Forest Grove Police Department is pleased to announce the return of the Community Police Academy starting this April.

The course begins on Wednesday, April 17 and will meet every Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m. in the Forest Grove Community Auditorium for six weeks, ending on May 22.

The Academy offers participants an in-depth, first-hand look into various facets of law enforcement and the Forest Grove Police Department. Topics include patrol procedures, detective work, traffic enforcement, emergency vehicle operation, crash reconstruction, hiring and training, use of force, crisis and mental health response, DUII and drug enforcement, among others. The course will also include opportunities to tour the station, get a 'behind the scenes' look into incident responses and investigations, and participate in scenarios and equipment demonstrations.

Applications are now available and can be submitted online or by contacting FGPD Community Outreach.

To participate, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no criminal record, and reside or work in Forest Grove. Seating is limited to 25 participants.

This event will mark the 12th Academy course since the FGPD launched the program, previously known as "Citizens Academy," in 2009. Like many events, the program was shelved in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and subsequently due to staffing constraints.
