Shaping the Future: City Council Charts 2025-26 Goals for Progress

Home Posted on March 24, 2025 | Last Updated on March 24, 2025

With a focus on long-term growth, accessibility, safety, and recreation, this year’s priorities aim to support community members and businesses while ensuring our city remains a great place to live, work, and play.  Four pillars were identified under our established values of financial stewardship, community engagement, DEI, and strategic planning.

Planning for Growth and Stability:

Sustained economic and community growth requires careful planning.  This year, the City Council will focus on expanding housing opportunities to meet the needs of our community, from young families to seniors.   By supporting smart development and affordable housing initiatives, to create stability for both homeowners and renters.  Economic growth will also be a priority, with efforts to clarify a strategic direction for downtown redevelopment and partnerships to strengthen local industries, attract new businesses, and create job opportunities that support a diverse workforce.

An Inclusive, Accessible, and Sustainable Community:

Our City thrives when everyone can participate and enjoy the beautiful landscape and amenities of Forest Grove.  In 2025, the city will continue working to evaluate funding options, adopt a 2040 Vision and Action Plan, and review DEI policies and programs.  Sustainability remains at the forefront of our plans, with a proposed efficiency study, parking management plan, and inventorying all unfunded mandates.

Ensuring Community Safety and Well-Being:

A safe community is a strong community.  This year, Forest Grove will enhance public safety, supporting first responders by bringing the Police Station Bond Measure to voters in May 2025. This proposed new facility addresses current space challenges and compliance issues, creating a much-needed effect and efficient workspace for our current law enforcement staff.  The investment for the average assessed household is approximately $263 per year or $22 per month over the 20-year bond.

Enhancing Recreation Opportunities for All:

Recreation and leisure opportunities contribute to a vibrant and connected city.  Council is prioritizing park and trail improvements, and recreational programs to ensure that community members of all ages have access to quality spaces for fitness, relaxation, and community events.  From youth activities to senior wellness programs, the city is dedicated to making recreation inclusive and accessible to everyone.
